Festive Films: My Faves

Is there anything better than snuggling on the sofa with a hot chocolate on a cold December night watching Christmas films? I don’t think so.  I have to admit, I could probably watch my favourites all year round but this time of year makes them that bit more special.

From the nasty green Grinch to the heart-warming 34th Street, here’s a roundup of my favourite festive films and what I’ll be curling up to this Christmas…

Elf

No festive film list would be complete without Elf – I’ve had lots of discussions with fellow bloggers and Christmas lovers and they all agree that Elf is undoubtedly one of the best festive films there is. It’s funny and touching at the same time and Will Ferrell is just awesome. What’s not to love?

The Snowman

Like Elf, this just had to be on my list of festive faves. It reminds me of my childhood; when my brother and I were little, we used to watch this every Christmas Eve and the music still gets me even as a 26 year old. It brings a tear to my eye and reminds me of the true magic of Christmas.

The Polar Express

Yet another gorgeous classic that just makes your heart feel all warm and fuzzy. Tom Hanks stars in this brilliantly twee and imaginative tale where seeing really is believing. Just the perfect movie to cuddle up to.

Miracle on 34th Street

Another heartwarming favourite of mine that is full of Christmas magic. Richard Attenborough makes the perfect Santa Claus and Mara Wilson is as cute as ever. This will make a believer out of anyone.

The Grinch

Does this need an explanation? The Grinch is one of my absolute faves and I could easily watch this over and over again at Christmas time. Jim Carrey is at his total comical peak in this film – in fact, I’m watching this as I write this post which shows just how much I love it.

The Santa Clause

I’m a huge Tim Allen fan and this hilarious movie is a firm favourite. His brilliant transformation from regular Dad to the actual Father Christmas still gets me every time – I’m not a fan of the sequels but this classic is definitely going to be watched this Christmas.
